The Owl Wing Principle
Owl feathers feature a serrated trailing edge that scatters turbulent airflow, enabling nearly noiseless flight. Most of the noise is generated by turbulences at the rear edge of the wing. The “owl wing” concept smooths the airflow by means of the serrated edge and scatters noise — LEUCO adapted this principle to the body grooves of jointing cutters, creating an irregular “owl-wing edge” gullet that channels airflow at the cutting edge.
Measurable Noise Reduction
The noise reduction can be heard and measured. LEUCO DIAMAX airFace and SmartJointer airFace achieve -1 dB(A) at idle compared to the already-quiet predecessor versions. LEUCO DIAREX airFace achieves -2 dB(A) at idle. These are the quietest jointing cutters with steel body on the market.
LEUCO SmartJointer, DIAMAX, and DIAREX are all equipped with the airFace surface as standard. Resharpening areas remain: DIAMAX airFace = 1.5mm, DIAREX airFace = 3.0mm.
